How many times have you been browsing through the online catalogs to find that perfect piece of clothing, just to stop dead at the price, or you wish it was in another color, or the sizing is just not right? Why not make it, instead?
I love this ~
However by the time I found this perfect top to wear with my summer skirts, they only had a size 4 left. Let me tell you I am no size 4!
However, I did find this pattern ~
I personally don’t need to open the top button to look sexy ( oh brother!) so the scoop neck is close enough for me. I can use ruffled eyelet instead of the fabric to make the jabot layers.
The JCrew top was dotted swiss ~ you can find that in your local Joann’s or if you want to go with a print ~ wouldn’t Anna Marie Horner’s Voile prints be luscious?
I found some white cotton batiste that I might use ( 2 layers) and some Wright’s ruffled eyelet. I think I could get very close to the look.

So for my size ~
- 2 yards of material for the 2 layers for the top
- 1 yard of ruffled eyelet for the jabot effect (I like the top one)
- 1 1/4 yd of 3/4″ eyelet for around the hem (next to the bottom would work nicely)
- and of course the pattern ( which I would love so much, I’d use over and over!)
I would spend about less than $20 in materials and $5.oo for the pattern ( I had a coupon) So, I can make my size for $25.00.
I like that! Do you ever try to recreate the “look” ~ you should, you can do it!

I was surprised how easy it was to find just what I needed to do the recreation. My pattern list is a long one, too, Monique!
Great idea! I can’t tell you how many times I have not purchased something because I say to myself ‘I can make that – for 1/2 the price’. I think the motto should be ‘JUST DO IT – MAKE IT’!!!
I say that all the time, bu! This top was over $80, reduced now to $59.00. Now I just need to get it done
Good Luck on the dress!

I love the idea of making our own cloths.
