You kitchen is probably where you spend most of your waking hours at home, and yet in most cases it is also where you are likely to find the least amount of fabric.  Most of our kitchen decorating comes from our color choices for the walls, cabinets, and counter tops.  Typically, tea towels and cafe curtains are our only chances to bring in some softness with fabrics.

Open floor plans and eat in kitchens have an advantage, however.  Chairs with beautifully upholstered fabrics, whether it’s just the seat or the whole chair, can add some much needed life to the space.

For example, take a look at this modern/industrial open kitchen design.

First let me say I think the dog coordinates well with the space, don’t you?  What a cute little guy!

Gray walls and cabinets, gray concrete floors and counters, and a white and gray back splash provide a neutral back drop that is just screaming for some accent colors in the way of fabric and accessories.  Modern styled chairs with what seems to be lucite legs are perfectly covered in a bold but neutral modern print.  They add the touch of color and warmth that an otherwise very cold appearing space so desperately needs.

And what better fabric source to look to for ways to recreate this look than Alexander Henry Fabrics.  Their fabrics are easily recognized and known for their illustrative prints influenced by history, culture, and haute couture.

I must admit that I found it difficult to navigate around the Alexander Henry website to narrow down a single collection, but none the less found many artistic, modern designs in just the right color palette for our inspiration room!
