My new friend Gwen from Gwynhug.com has introduced me to these wonderful little reference tools she has created!

the original how much fabric reference cards

From Gwen:

As a fabric lover, I’m sure you can relate to the experience of unexpectedly coming across a must-have fabric and not knowing how much to buy.  After my experiences of way-overbuying too many times, I finally decided to do something about this, and I have created a series of small, plastic reference cards that summarize the fabric requirements of thousands (literally!) of sewing patterns – broken down by garment type, garment size and fabric width.

  • Sometimes the perfect fabric catches your eye and demands to be bought, but you do not have a particular pattern in hand. How much should you buy?

  •  These reference cards will help you estimate as accurately as possible, by providing tables that summarize actual fabric requirements from real patterns, broken down by outfit size and fabric width.

  • Over 3,000 patterns were used to build the tables, including patterns from Simplicity, McCalls, Butterick, Vogue, Burda, Neue Mode, Kwik Sew, Hot Patterns, & New Look.

I have sets based on patterns for (a) women’s clothes, (b) women’s plus sized clothes, (c) men’s clothes, (d) baby & toddler clothes and (e) children’s clothes.

Here’s what she sent to me to take a look at and I’m very impressed!  These sturdy and well put together cards include just about everything you can think of!

I’m also very excited that this set will become part of one of the raffle prize collections coming up later this week!
