To continue my need to makeover my Christmas decorations on a budget, I had to address some of my tree ornaments.  Not only do I not want to spend very much, I’d rather spend nothing at all!  Trying to move from formal gold balls to country ornaments was a cinch when I realized that I had left over red ticking stripe fabric in my stash.  Here’s what I did.

I began with my gold ball, gathered my fabric, some ribbon and some garland from my Christmas greenery graveyard, aka all the stuff I don’t know what to do with that I cut apart when needed for other things.  Actually that sounds gruesome.  Dr. Frankenstein like if I call it a graveyard.  Okay, it’s my greenery box.

Moving on.

I guestimated how big of a fabric square I needed to cover the ball completely.

-

Then to keep the fabric from fraying with use, I cut the square using my pinking sheers.

-

Center the ball in the fabric and pull it up completely over the ornament.  I wasn’t particularly well, particular about this part.  I wasn’t aiming for a perfectly wrapped ball.

My hands are really ugly by the way.  Mostly because my nails are still recovering from replacing 300 individual lights on my prelit tree.  Surprisingly I’ve never been approached to be a hand model.  Go figure.

Tie the ribbon around the top of the fabric.  Make sure you feel the top of the ornament and the knot ends up below it.  It makes it easier to tie and find the loop to put the hook back on.

Replace the hook.  Suddenly my gargantuan green hooks made sense.  They were a little ridiculous on the gold balls, but needed now!

Cut off a piece of greenery and tuck it into the bow.

I almost used my scissors for that!  I didn’t realize there was a wire running through some of the garland, not all, but I’d have ruined them!

-

-

Then, just hang on your tree or anywhere else you are looking for some country farmhouse charm!

Resourceful budget decor makeover using fabric!  My favorite kind of project!

You can use bleach to remove the paint from the inside and outside of glass ornaments. You are left with clear balls that you can fill or paint.
